Anna Maria Island is truly a hidden gem on the west coast of Florida! Easily accessible from the mainland, the island offers the quaintness and charm of old Florida - as soon as you arrive on the island you feel like you have stepped back in time! The beaches are absolutely stunning- white sugar sands and beautiful turquoise blue waters - just like the Caribbean. The island is very environmentally aware and nature conservation is very important. There are several nature preserves close by with ospreys, roseate spoonbills, parrots, egrets, pelicans, herons and lots more...but don't be surprised to see some of these characters just wandering along the streets and paths of the island! Dolphins are commonly spotted, manatees and turtles when it nesting season. Restaurants are plentiful on the island and all of them are excellent - most offering wonderful locally sourced fish and fresh ingredients. Travelling around the island is simple as there is a free trolley bus which provides a regular service and means a car isn't really essential on the island itself. The pace of life is slow and leisurely, there are no high rises, fast food chains or giant shopping malls- just quaint little streets, pretty nature reserves, stunning beaches and wonderful places to wine and dine!
